Looking for:Pattern for a simple snood | Aug. 23rd, 2006 @ 12:38 pm |

I know that I can figure out how even the most difficult clothing patterns work;but at the moment I'm at a loss (completely!) -perhaps it's because the pattern I'm looking for is so simple?
I'm looking for a simple snood pattern -such as this one:
http://proudmommy.tripod.com/snood.html
But obviously I'm too stupid to figure out how it works. That pattern piece that's shown there - I just can't figure out how it is supposed to work. I Know that there must be a banding (going around the head from top to bottom), and then this pattern piece shown there is supposed to be sewn to it. But how? Is the 'left (straight) side'of that pattern supposed to go to the banding, or is it the 'right (rounded) side'? And I'm somehow too lazy to just cut a piece of fabric and figure it out by myself... *is totally embarrassed because she doesn't understand such a simple pattern*...
All other patterns I found on the net are much likely to this one *or* crocheting / knitting patterns, and I can't knit or crochet even just the faintest bit...
Help,anyone?

This is for the current project yes? My pattern is super simple, I can scan it for you if you like? But esentially it's just an oval (wide part to the front and back) for the main part sewn to a band. http://costumes.glittersweet.com/sca/hats.htmThat is a very brief description of it. I recently fixed mine and can offer a little further advice: Sew the lining to the shell for both the baggy bit and the band then over hand them edge to edge. Most people persist in calling any over handing cartridge pleating, but it's not;) This way the gathered seam allowance does no push the baggy bit out and will allow it then to fall straight down. I found even when I weighed the bag with extra hair it stuck out because of the amount of fabric gathered at the bottom. Also make sure the bag part is not gathered across the top. This is the biggest difference between the cauls in the rest of europe and Hauben of Germany. If you start the gathering of the bag to where your ears are you will get enough room at the sides for hair and any padding that may be needed (depending on how exaggerated you want to be;) .) Shoot, I really need to update that page, correct my typos and add more headwear! Good thing it is not linked from the rest of my site;)
Yes, that's for the current project :-) I don't necessarily *need* it as in the Magdalena portrait, there is none; but nevertheless it would be nice to have, as it appears in so many other Cranach portraits ;-) Ahm but if I know it's an 'O'it rather makes sense... I guess I know why this is so hard for me: Because I never before tried to make headwear!*lol*...

If you need a crocheted one and have a pattern, yell. I used to crochet quite a few of those in ye olden days - a bit like that one:
COOL! I was thinking how I could make one from trims that I would sew together in a diamond pattern... I'm basically looking for something like those here...: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/Lucas_Cranach_d._%C3%84._039.jpg (in the middle) and I don't think it's crocheted - it *really* looks like trims in a diamond pattern... There are many snood patterns for crocheting (Google!) but the problem is that I can't read them, as they don't particularly resemble the 'maps' I'm used to but look more like... RND 1: Chain (ch) 1. Work 16 single chain (sc) in ring. Join with sl st to 1st sc. RND 2: Sc in same stitch as joining, *ch3, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from *, end with sl st in 1st sc. RND 3: Sl st to center of next ch3, sc in ch3, *ch4, sc in next ch3, repeat from *, end with sl st in 1st sc. RND 4: Sl st to center of next ch4, sc in ch4, *ch5, sc in next ch4 repeat, from *, end with sl st in 1st sc. RND 5: Sl st to center of next ch5, sc in ch5, *ch6, sc in next ch5 repeat from *, end with sl st in 1st sc. (etc.etc.)(taken from: http://www.simplygracedesigns.com/Pamamom/snood.htm ) and I have no idea how to *draw* something like this...

No crochet!;) Katherine Barich has recently posted photos of a couple of hair nets that are possibly sprang... But otherwide I suspect many were indeed trellised braid (usually on a fine gold fabric.)
Oh and there are actual netted hair nets as well.
